Author Bio
Malachy Doyle was brought up in Northern Ireland and moved to England at the age of eighteen to study psychology at the Bolton Institute of Technology. After obtaining his BA he did a variety of jobs: packing Polo mints, teaching, working in advertising, working as a care assistant and later became a deputy head for a special school. It wasn't until he reached forty that Malachy decided to become a full-time writer. He has produced numerous books for children, including the Walker Read and Wonder title, Jody's Beans, illustrated by Judith Allibone. Malachy lives on the west coast of Wales with his family. Jane Ray is one of the most acclaimed contemporary children's book illustrators. Her books include The Story of the Creation, which won the 1992 Smarties Book Prize (6-8 Category) and Hansel and Gretel. She has been shortlisted four times for the Kate Greenaway Medal - for Noah's Ark in 1991, The Story of Christmas in 1992, The Happy Prince in 1995 and most recently for Fairy Tales, rewritten by Berlie Doherty, which has been shortlisted for the 2001 Kate Greenaway Medal.
