Anthology for the Earth

Anthology for the Earth

by Allen Judy (Editor)

Synopsis

Award-winning author Judy Allen has had a lifelong interest in the natural world. As a child, she compiled a notebook of writings on the subject that interested or moved her and it is these, along with more recent discoveries that form the basis of this anthology. Included are the wise thoughts of a Kayapo Indian Chief on saving the Amazonian Rainforest; an Australian Aboriginal woman bemoaning the destructive effects of mining; Rudyard Kipling's haunting seal anthem, Lukkanon ; Gerald Durrell's affirmation of captive breeding; and an 11-year-old boy's reflections on watching a robin. There are the voices of poets, scientists, spiritual leaders and ordinary people. Some are celebratory, others angry, sad, contemplative, ironic, lyrical, instructive. What links these pieces is a passionate concern evident also in the deeply-felt images that accompany them - paintings, drawings and photographs.
