Sophie's Masterpiece

by JaneDyer (Illustrator), EileenSpinelli (Author)

Synopsis

Sophie is no ordinary house spider. She's an artist and takes great pride in her work. Every web she spins is more wonderous than the one before. But the guests at Beekman's Boardinghouse don't like spiders. Everywhere Sophie goes guests scream and shoo her away. No one there wants anything to do with Sophie and her magnificent creations - no one except the young woman up on the third floor who is busy 'weaving' something herself; and when she runs out of yarn, Sophie knows that the time has finally come to create the masterpiece of a lifetime.

Author Bio
Eileen Spinelli is the celebrated author of numerous books for children. Sophie's Masterpiece is taken from personal experiance when, as a young woman, she lived in a boarding house and met a young mother who couldn't afford to buy her baby a blanket. Eileen Spinelli lives in West Chester, Pennsylvania with her husband, author Jerry Spinelli. Acclaimed artist Jane Dyer has illustrated many picture books, including the bestselling 'When Mama Comes Home Tonight'. Her inspiration for Sophie came from the nursery web spider who, unlike most spiders, use their webs almost entirely to shelter and protect their young, rather than for catching prey. Jane lives in Northampton, Massachusetts.
