  In 1916 Lewis Nott wrote more than 130 letters to his wife, Doris, from World War I trenches on the Somme. The letters are about the tedium of war, the fear, the weariness, and fatigue. They are also the letters of a great and intimate love affair. The couple's son David found the letters after both his parents had died.
