The New Engineering Contract: NEC: The Engineering and Construction Short Contract (ECSC)

by InstitutionofCivilEngineers (Author)

Synopsis

The New Engineering Contract (NEC) is a modern day family of standard contracts that truly embraces the concept of partnership and encourages employers, designers, contractors and project managers to work together to achieve the client's objectives. The Engineering and Construction Short Contract (ECSC) has been specifically produced for use with contracts which do not require sophisticated management techniques, comprise straightforward work, and impose only on low risks on both the Employer and Contractor. ECSC does not restrict or ring-fence the size or type of work with which it can be used as it does not impose a financial ceiling to the value of the contract. However, it does allow Employers to base their choice between using it, or the main Engineering and Construction Contract , on the level of complexity of the work required and the level of risk to both parties.
