  Updated to include the newly-independent African country of Eritrea which split from Ethiopia in 1993, this atlas also includes the new states that have been established after the break-up of the USSR, Yugoslavia and Czechoslovakia. The atlas includes 76 pages of world mapping and a 40-page section providing a country-by-country guide to all the world's independent countries. Each entry has statistical information (size, population, capital city, languages, religions, etc), the national flag in colour and a concise commentary. 50 city plans are shown in detail as well as 14 pages of airbrushed physical maps. Highest mountains, longest rivers, world rainfall, temperature and international times zones are only some of the topics covered. Also included is a guide to the pronunciation of place-names, a six-page geographical dictionary and a table giving distances the major cities of the world.
