E. Barrie Kavasch is a herbalist, ethnobiologist and food historian of Cherokee, Creek and Powhatan descent. She has studied with many acclaimed native healers and is research associate of the Insitute For American Indian Studies in Washington, Conneticcut. Karen Baar is a graduate of Yale University School of Medicine and writes for The New York Times, Good Housekeeping and other publications.
