Endometriosis (Women's Health S.)

by Marion Gordon Bakoulis (Author), Lyle Brietkopf (Author), Lyle J. Breitkopf (Author)

Synopsis

Endometriosis is one of the commonest benign gynaecological conditions, yet many women have never heard of it, and it is often misdiagnosed. This book explains what endometriosis is and what the causes may be, and discusses diagnosis, treatment and management. It affects at least 2.3 per cent of all women and is the cause of at least 10 per cent of infertility. It is caused by cells from the endometrium growing outside the womb in the pelvic cavity. It can cause severe menstrual and pre-menstrual pain, and during intercourse. However, various treatments are available, and doctors are becoming more aware of the extent of the problem.
