The book uses the traditional story Elves and the Shoemaker and the rhyme Cobbler, Cobbler! Diddle Diddle Dumpling for parent and child to share. It has a four in one concept in that each book contains four main elements to help children learn to read: activities based on the story and rhyme to repeat vocabulary and build reading skills; an interactive make-and-do reading game (the title of each activity book relates to the content of the game) which is intended to encourage vocabulary and reading skills; and an original story for the child to read alone.
