Author Bio
George Mackay Brown was born in Orkney and lived there until his death in 1996. He has written many plays, poems and stories and in 1988 was awarded the James Tait Black Memorial Prize for The Golden Bird. In 1994 his novel Beside the Ocean of Time was shortlisted for the Booker Prize and judged Saltire Scottish Book of the Year.
