This is the pupil's book of "Understanding Mathematics 5" which is the fifth of a five-book course covering the requirements of Key Stages 3 and 4 of the National Curriculum in mathematics. The book is designed for pupils of average and above average ability in Year 11. The material in the book is presented in chapters, each including an introductory discussion, "You need to know", exercises divided into Common core, Reinforcement (which can be jumped by the more able pupil), and Development and Extension which enable teachers to optimise progress for individuals in the teaching group. In this second edition, the chapters have been re-ordered to align with the revised National Curriculum. Topics, covered from Levels 5 to 10, allow thorough revision of earlier work before assessment at GCSE. New topics have been added on Algebra (sequences, iteration) and Data (sampling, dispersion, critical path analysis). There is also additional material in practical graphs, and extra questions have been added to reflect the National Curriculum emphasis.
