Studying and Working in Spain

by Michael Newton (Author), Graham Shields (Author)

Synopsis

This is a comprehensive guide for students intending to embark on study or work in Spain, split into three sections. Part 1 provides background information on contemporary Spain: the restoration of democracy, the creation of autonomous regions, an overview of the education system and the structure of higher education including types of universities, their location and the range of undergraduate courses on offer. Part 2 offers practical advice on the student experience: preparing for your trip in advance, including how to choose a university, insurance, finance and how to get there, and living and studying in Spain, including accommodation, registration and adapting to Spanish patterns of study and way of life. A major section is devoted to working in Spain, including a detailed guide on how to find work, an overview of the different types of employment on offer, taxation, social security and health, and obtaining the correct documentation. Part 3 is a directory of Spain's 67 universities and the 50 towns in which they are located. Each town description includes general tourist information, and details of relevant institutions such as the town hall, employment office and chamber of commerce. Each university description provides detailed data on the institution or institutions located there, including contact numbers, teaching centres, student services and courses in Spanish language and culture.
