Dictionary of Modern Political Ideologies

Dictionary of Modern Political Ideologies

by M . A . Riff (Editor)

Synopsis

This dictionary aims to offer the undergraduate and general reader an explanation of the ideologies which have influenced the course of politics since the French Revolution. The 42 articles discuss ideologied ranging from Communism and Islamic fundamentalism to feminism and Zionism. The authors examine each separate ideology's historical starting point, often with the writings of a particular theorist. They aim to show how the original ideas relate to the conditions of the time, and to single out those elements which have the greatest significance in the long term. They also discuss how the original propositions have been taken up by others - disciples, dissidents, demagogues, conspirators and academics - to produce the diverse political ideas of the present day. The dictionary will be a useful reference for the politics and modern history undergraduate, and for anyone seeking to understand contemporary political ideas.
