Your Sort of Courage

Your Sort of Courage

by Lloyd Kemp (Author)

Synopsis

It was 7.30 on the morning of Monday June 17th, 1968, and even at that early hour the weather augured well...Mary had as usual followed me to the door, and stood watching and waving as I bounded up the steps of the little snicket which led to the next road, and my shortest route to the station. I looked back briefly and waved, and as I did so she turned into the house again - and closed the door on an era. When Lloyd Kemp was next to see his wife, she was in a comatose state, having suffered a massive stroke. The hopes for a new lease of life together, with children grown-up and retirement ahead, were dashed with one brutal blow. This is an account of a couples struggle to maintain a loving and fulfilling relationship while struggling against the physical and mental effects of the stroke's aftermath. Partly biographical, partly autobiographical, the book throws light on Mary's ability to inspire all those whose lives she touched. At the same time it gives an honest account of the author's search for understanding of the nature of personal suffering and the spiritual problems raised. The book is peppered with Lloyd Kemp's heart-felt poems, reflecting his life with Mary, and through these we gain a clear picture of both the author and his wife - two ordinary people whose circumstances compel them to call on extraordinary inner resources of courage and strength. This is a story which is bound to affect the lives of many others. Carers and the cared-for alike will find solace and comfort in this account of courage in adversity, and will recognise many of the sentiments expressed throughout this work. A list of useful support/contact addresses for carers, stroke victims and for the bereaved, will be supplied in the book.
