Irish Long Distance Walks: a Guide to All the Way-Marked Routes

Irish Long Distance Walks: a Guide to All the Way-Marked Routes

by Michael Fewer (Author), Michael Fewer (Author)

Synopsis

Way-marked walking is a very new activity in Ireland, where the first official trail, the Wicklow Way, was inaugurated in 1982. Today there are over 1000kms of signposted ways from the 25km Cavan Way to the 215km Kerry Way. These walks are not just for experienced trekkers - they have been planned so that in the right conditions anyone should be capable of walking them all. While there are a few rugged stretches over open mountain passes, the routes mainly follow old disused roads, grassy boreens and forest tracks. None of the ways involves significant climbs - the highest point is 661m on the Wicklow Way.
