Tales of the Old Horsemen

Tales of the Old Horsemen

by JenniferDavies (Author)

Synopsis

A fascinating look back to the days when the horse played a vital role in the economy of the country, and was not simply used for the purposes of pleasure and competition. It contains tales from a wonderful selection of people who have worked with horses in a variety of ways including cavalrymen, the circus artiste, gypsy horse dealers and the man who ran one of the last commercial horse-drawn narrowboats on the canals. They recall with great affection how important horses have been to them, not only because of their practical role, but also for the loyalty and companionship so typical of the species, and which is recognised by the thousands of people devoted to horses today. It contains over 100 beautiful watercolour illustrations and archive photographs, as well as fascinating extracts from old journals, magazines and newspapers.
