The Principles of Teaching Riding: The Official Manual of the Association of British Riding Schools

by Karen Bush (Author), Julian Marczak (Author)

Synopsis

A comprehensive, straightforward approach to the primary elements upon which all first-class riding instruction depends. The authors introduce the fundamentals of teaching riding, including the horse, the instructor, the rider and the riding school, giving advice on the suitability and safety regulations for each. Details are given of the facilities and equipment required to be able to teach, and there is advice on the correct use and fitting of saddlery, clothing, whips and lungeing equipment. The teaching of children, nervous riders and disabled and handicapped riders is covered. Teaching skills explored include lesson structure, teaching aids, teaching style and tips for communication. While the emphasis is on safety throughout the book, the authors conclude by looking at the correct procedure for dealing with accidents.
