The Complete Gundog

by JohnHumphreys (Editor), JohnPaley (Editor), J.L.Barnard (Editor), Dave Parfitt (Editor)

Synopsis

In this unique book, thirteen international experts take one aspect of the subject each and examine it in depth, drawing on their expertise to provide the detailed knowledge essential to success. From breeding and early training to field trials and working at the highest level in the shooting field, every aspect of gundog work is covered. A wide range of breeds is also discussed, with generous reference to the increasingly popular Hunt, Point and Retrieve (HPR) dogs. Linking the chapters are case histories of a succession of one-man labradors owned by the editor, John Humphreys, each different, and each with a lesson to teach. There are also stories of dog work in the shooting field by HM The Queen, and much more. John Paley's superb illustrations, black and white pictures from Dave Parfitt and some remarkable colour photography by JL Barnard complete a sumptuously illustrated and richly informative book, which will prove invaluable to the beginner and the sportsman alike.

Author Bio
John Humphreys has written the popular 'Country Gun' column in Shooting Times for many years, and twenty books on fieldsports and country ways, including Poachers' Tales for David & Charles. He trains gun dogs, runs a lowlands shoot, chases grouse in Yorkshire and geese in Scotland, and fishes for trout and carp on his own little reserve in Cambridgeshire, Hunter's Fen, which won a Laurent-Perrier conservation award in 1991.
