  This is an illustrated diary of the modern countryside and its changing seasons, covering wildlife, shooting and fishing, crops, hedgerows, farm animals and people. The author's house is situated fairly centrally on a farm and this enables him to see most of what is happening throughout the year. The river Wensum borders the northern aspect of the farm and provides fishing and duck shooting, and is an added attraction for wildlife, enabling him to write an account of country life from January 1 onwards.
