Neville Featherstone served in the British Royal Navy from 1956 to 1986 as a Pilot. He has participated in a Fastnet race, sailed from the Canaries to Barbados and completed a single-handed circumnavigation of the UK over the years. He began editing the Nautical Almanac in 1992, continued until 1999 and then resumed the editing role in 2003. He has also written the Reeds Yachtsman's Handbook and three Cruising Guides. He currently owns a Westerly Fulmar, and lives in Sherborne, 30 miles south of Bristol in Dorset, England's most beautiful county.
