Nothing but Trouble is a story about prejudice. When Jay arrives at Glenwood Primary, Paul is assigned to look after him and be his 'buddy', but looking after Jay proves harder than he expected. Jay's family are travellers and the new boy doesn't say much or seem interested in making friends. But Paul soon discovers Jay has a secret - after school he goes to visit a family of foxes living in the garden of a derelict house. Slowly a bond between the two boys develops, but this proves difficult at school as Paul is forced to choose sides between his new friend and his old ones...

Book Overview: Alan MacDonald is a high-profile children's author, particularly for this age group. Part of the specially-commissioned White Wolves fiction range for 7-11 year olds, written in consultation with the Centre for Literacy in Primary Education. Each year group will have three stand-alone titles and accompanying Teachers' Guides to support guided reading lessons in the classroom. Ties in with themes demanded by the NLS for Year 4: stories which raise issues. The series is already garnering praise in the press: 'It's a pleasure to read commissioned work which fulfils its brief so imaginatively' (Books for Keeps).
