by Collins Music (Primary Contributor), Peter Bailey (Illustrator), Helen MacGregor (Author)

Synopsis

Young children need to recognise the sounds that make up words, whilst having fun with language. The aim of this book, is to do just that. Through the medium of songs and rhymes, it aims to explore vocabulary, pattern, alliteration, phonemes, digraphs and consonant clusters.

In order to achieve the goals set out in the National Literacy Framework document for word level work, young children need plenty of opportunities to explore, to become aware of, and to learn to recognise the sounds that make up words, whilst having fun with language. The aim of this book, is to do just that. Through the medium of songs and rhymes, it aims to develop an awareness of onset and time. There are songs for exploring vocabulary, pattern, alliteration, phonemes, digraphs and consonant clusters. In addition there are teacher's notes with ideas for activities to support the songs. Helen MacGregor has written Listening to Music and Tom Thumb's Musical Maths while Kaye Umasky is known for her Three Singing Pigs, Three Rapping Rats and Phantasmagoria .
