The introduction describes the momentous events by Chinese and Europeans living in the city at that time and the photographs depict the multi-racial city of swarming streets and alleys, recreated by Ballard in Spielberg's Empire of the Sun . Sam Tata has exhibited in many major collections, such as the National Portrait Gallery.
