Milanese Lace: An Introduction

Milanese Lace: An Introduction

by Lucy Kincaid (Author), Lucy Kincaid (Author), Patricia Read (Author)

Synopsis

This illustrated book is designed to show lacemakers of all levels to make the decorated braids of the kind first used in early Milanese lace. More advanced instructions are then given showing how to work the same braids into original pieces. Beginning with explanations of the braids themselves and the technical details involved in working them, it then goes on to explain different methods of joining such braids together. These pieces are then incorporated into a variety of patterns covering both traditional and more modern designs. With full instructions for pattern-making and extensive notes on technique, it is hoped that lacemakers will begin to build on the wide range of patterns thus creating their own original lace designs. Patricia Read was taught by Elsie Vanstone and has taught lace making for the LCC and ILEA since 1949. Lucy Kincaid is studying under Patricia Read and has a special interest in the modern approach to lace making.
