by JaneNewble-DeGraaf (Author)
This is an introduction to Duchesse lace, a Dutch variety of non-continuous bobbin lace in which motifs are connected by braids, sewing and fillings, as in Honiton lace, with which it has certain similarities. After some notes on its history, the author concentrates on techniques and design, covering equipment, basic methods, braids and connections, motifs such as flowers and curls, leaves, fillings and berries. The reader is presented with patterns to work at appropriate points and there is advice on mounts and frames, ways of making use of lace, and practical approaches to design.
