Synopsis

The RHS Diary 2011 is illustrated with the work of Graham Stuart Thomas (1909-2003). Thomas is revered as one of the greatest gardeners of the 20th century. Awarded the highest horticultural honours, as Gardens Adviser to the National Trust he was directly responsible for the conservation and restoration of many of the finest gardens in England. Thomas was probably best known for his work in gathering and popularizing old and new shrub roses. In addition to having an encyclopaedic knowledge of horticulture, Thomas was an artist whose paintings and drawings illustrate many of his books. He was awarded an OBE and is one of 63 holders of the Victoria Medal of Honour. The RHS awarded him the Veitch Memorial Medal as well as their Gold Medal for his paintings and drawings. Illustrated in colour throughout ,with a week to view; national and religious holidays and calendarial data are included.
