More than that, they are also ideal for our demanding and often chaotic everyday lives. A casserole prepared in the evening to be waiting in the oven after a busy day at work; an economical and healthy bowl of soup for lunch at the office; pizza slice and honey & seed flapjacks for the children's lunch box; a sumptuous cake for a family tea or a quiche, salad and glass of wine to share with friends. There is a recipe for every occasion which you are sure to find straight forward yet rewarding to make.

Media Reviews
Tantalising recipes for ramblers. Cumbria Evening News It's a lovely month for walking the Coast to Coast route. This book uses wonderful foods produced along the route in recipes that are simple to prepare after a long day's walking. BBC Good Food Magazine Every home has one or two cookbooks - usually collecting dust on an out-of-reach shelf in the kitchen - and there's no cause to use them because the dishes are too difficult or the ingredients are impossible to come by. Rambler's Rewards aims to counter that problem by making local delicacies using local produce, from along the Coast to Coast route. North West Evening Mail A handsome, traditional cookbook full of wholesome recipes for the best of British fare. Cumberland News Elizabeth Guy and Pat Kirkbride know their food and believe in sourcing the best ingredients which are often to be obtained locally from producers who are equally passionate about the quality of their food. They also know how to make their food look and taste as though it has just come out of the oven in a large old farmhouse in the Dales. Derry Brabbs provides the final ingredient with photographs that tempt you to eat the food and walk the fells. You can decide which you want to do first. Workington Times & Star People, places, local produce and family chat are all part of this book which reflects the fact that this is not just one of the most beautiful countrysides to walk through but also beats an equally unforgettable culinary path for us across the north of England. This lovely book will make a very acceptable Christmas present for anyone eager to learn how to cook. Bon appetit! Keswick Reminder A great present for an exiled Northerner in some distant city, especially if they were hungry and homesick. Northern Echo Quick and easy recipes for those with busy lives, and for walkers to enjoy on return home from an energetic day. Footsteps

Elizabeth Guy's family moved to Stalling Busk, a tiny hamlet in Wensleydale, North Yorkshire when she was ten years old. Her parents, through their smallholding, lived the good life , with a jersey cow which yielded rich milk, always a pig in the barn for homemade bacon, sausages and meat and of course a potato patch. After moving back to Wensleydale following University and a spell in London, Elizabeth opened Humble Pie, a delicatessen & fresh food takeaway. Well before it became popular and before the advent of Farmer's markets, it was important to her to use local ingredients whenever possible. In June 2006, Elizabeth filmed a series of ten cookery demonstrations as part of BBC1's Countryfile - The Summer Diaries . She lives in Askrigg, Wensleydale, with her three daughters and her partner Bruce, a farmer.

Pat Kirkbride has three great passions in life - hill walking, her two collie dogs and a love of good food. Pat grew up on a traditional hill farm in Wensleydale, and developed a natural understanding of the connection between the landscape and the different breeds that land will support. Each farmer's unique knowledge of the area's climate combined with good breeding and animal husbandry will result in the finest end product. Born with a love of walking, Pat is at her happiest when out of doors, and finds it truly fascinating that in the 191 miles that is the Coast to Coast walk, the produce available is so diverse. She has been lucky enough to visit a small selection of producers from along the walk and shares those experiences in the book. Her love of good food, comes from her mother, Doreen Whitehead, who is a wonderful cook and shares her experiences of running a farmhouse B&B in this book. Pat lives in Snaizeholme, just outside Hawes, with her husband and son, and two collie dogs.
