A Year in the life of Padstow, Polzeath and Rock

A Year in the life of Padstow, Polzeath and Rock

by JoannaJackson (Author)

Synopsis

Nestling on the beautiful Camel Estuary, Padstow's colourful harbour is surrounded by pastel-washed fishermen's cottages and a glorious collection of shops and restaurants. Meanwhile, just a short ferry ride away is the pretty village of Rock. Their location on the stunning north Cornish coast makes them hugley popular with the young and old alike, offering an ecclectic mixture of sedate cream teas in Padstow and Atlantic rollers at Polzeath, wildlife on the estuary and nightlife in Rock. All this combines to make sure that this area is one of the most popular holiday detsinations in the UK. With clarity and affection, Joanna Jackson chronicles in photos a year in the life of this most charming corner of North Cornwall, from the festive to the picturesque, from the enduring pagan traditions of the 'Obby 'Oss and 'Mummers', to spectacular land and seascapes through the seasons.

Media Reviews
Editor's choice: My first thoughts on this book were how pleasing it is to see a photography book that does not focus solely on the sea. Although it does contain coastal images, this volume also exhibits the local flora, fauna and wildlife, often from interesting angles and an expert use of height. Jackson's thorough introductions at the beginning of each chapter are key to her success, as they give real structure and background to each image. Cornwall Today Joanna Jackson has affectionately created a wonderfully diverse collection of pictures that showcase a range of techniques and subjects. From spectacular wideangle landscape shots to intimate shots of local wildlife, each page has something different to offer. Jackson's knowledge of the local area shines through in her writing, as she enthusiastically describes its history, industry and traditional pastimes. If you are thinking of visiting North Cornwall then this could certainly persuade you! Outdoor Photography If you are unfamiliar with Padstow, Polzeath and Rock, this book will make you want to go there. If you know the area, you will be delighted to see that Joanna Jackson has captured it so well. Cornwall Life A breath of fresh air. Full of creative angles and techniques, Jackson has delivered an inspiring portrait of a place. Amateur Photographer
