The British Library is home to one of the world's greatest medieval treasures. The Lindisfarne Gospels is an oustanding example of Anglo-Saxon book painting. It was written and illuminated in the early eighth century AD, perhaps by Bishop Eadfrith in the Monastery of Lindisfarne, on an island off the coast of Northumbria. The diary provides an opportunity to see this amazing work of art as never before. New photography of the original manuscript has made available pages and details previously unseen. The illuminations are shown here in close-up colour reproductions. The diary is in a week-to-view format with a full-page colour picture on every spread and a ribbon marker. It is packed with useful information, including national holidays for Britain, Europe, Australia, New Zealand, Canada and the USA.
