Synopsis

Abigail Cookson, whose mother disappeared when she was a small child and whose father is the town drunk, thinks her life can only get better when she meets and falls in love with handsome sailor Joe. And when she gets a job at a large department store, she thinks her troubles are over.But Joe is off to sea and Abby's employer is not as respectable as she thought. When Abby discovers she is pregnant while Joe is away at sea, it seems things can't get any worse. The start of World War Two gives her the chance of a new life and to put the past behind her. Roberta Grieve had her first story published in 1998 and since then has had many stories and articles published, as well as four historical novellas in the My Weekly collection. She is secretary of the Chichester Writers' Circle and editor of the Chichester Literary Societies quarterly newsletter. She enjoys painting and walking. Roberta lives in Chichester, which is the setting for Abigail's Secret.
