When Billy Bandro arrives in the Wyoming Territory, he hopes to lay aside his lawless past riding with the killer and bank robber Wesley Toms and settle down to a peaceable life in Freshwater Creek. He is hired to ride shot-gun on the Walker Stage and when Toms is captured and lodged in the town jail, Billy is assigned to drive him to Laramie for trial and probable execution. However, Toms' gang of desperadoes bushwhack the coach and, leaving Billy for dead, head for the mountains with two hostages, Nancy Partridge and her Aunt Emily. Billy is saved by the gambler Slam Beardsley and together they ride off in pursuit. But there are plenty of surprises in store for them.
