One of a new series of national road atlases covering major European countries, this atlas aims to provide a wealth of motoring and touring information on Germany presented in a handy format ideal for travelling abroad. Placed at the beginning of the book for easy reference, there is an overview route-planning map of the entire country in a single opening followed by a clear key map and multilingual legend to the symbols used on the road map. The main road map section follows, comprising 163 pages of detailed mapping at a scale of 1:300,000, or five miles to one inch, throughout. All main roads are clearly shown and E routes distinctly numbered. Autobahns, Autobahn junctions, dual carriageways, service stations and border crossing points are clearly marked and distances between selected points given. A wide range of useful touring information is also incorporated into these maps, including highighted scenic routes and simple symbols showing hotels, hostels, mountain huts, camp sites, swimming pools, recommended bathing beaches, golf courses, national parks, nature reserves, forests, castles, churches, ancient monuments and other places of interest. Complementary to these detailed road maps, there is a comprehensive index to over 17,000 placenames, all with postcodes indicated. The road maps are followed by a four-page large-scale street plan of Berlin. A 16-page route map of all Europe is also included.
