Synopsis

Injection Techniques in Orthopaedic and Sports Medicine provides a concise and practical guide in the use and technique of injecting joints and soft tissues for the relief of musculoskeletal pain and inflammation. It is an essential book for the wide range of practitioners who have to deal with the management of joint and soft tissue injuries in relation to sports and overuse. The book deals with the technique of injection area by area. For each lesion, the author provides step-by-step guidance on the appropriate patient selection and delivery of the drug. Each written description is complemented by an illustration of the anatomy of the area and a photograph showing the anatomical landmark for the injection. Introductory chapters deal with the effects and uses of corticosteroids and local anaesthetics, using the latest evidence based on research results. The safety procedures for using these products are set out together with guidelines to safe injection technique.
