Dublin: A Portrait

Dublin: A Portrait

by V. S. Pritchett (Author)

Synopsis

The author gives a personal view of a city he first visited as a young journalist in 1923, and which he came to love. He tells us of Dublin's politics, explores its fine mansions, its curious statues and hidden corners, its splendour and squalor. He takes the reader there in the 1920s; goes to see plays in the draughty Abbey Theatre - Sean O'Casey with his paper pinned on the wall, Get on with the bloody play , Yeats waving a teapot in indignation at Shaw, and he shows the reader the Dublin of the 60s, a modern city facing the future, but still as eccentric, enchanting and eloquent as ever.
