This novel is the story of Stan's search for his home and his struggle to survive. Lonely and misunderstood he runs away from his foster mother and sister in London, planning to go in search of his real mother, whom he has never known, and then on to Ireland, where his older brother Sid lives. Unwittingly he carries valuable drugs that someone has hidden in his bag, and is pursued by the criminal to Liverpool and then to Ireland, where he stumbles across an IRA hide-out and a monastery.
