Preaching the Incarnation

Preaching the Incarnation

by Peter K. Stevenson (Author), Stephen I. Wright (Author)

Synopsis

Preaching the Incarnation, a follow-up to the authors' Preaching the Atonement, offers a theological discussion of ten important Bible passages connected with the doctrine of incarnation, bringing historical and literary questions about the text into dialogue with Christian tradition, drawing out the implications of the passage for preaching. In each chapter a sermon is presented, followed by a commentary that sets the sermon in context and highlights the rhetorical strategy of the preacher. Well-known preachers William Willimon, Thomas Long, Rowan Williams, and Anna Carter Florence each contribute sermons to the book, as do the authors.

Media Reviews
Preaching the Incarnation (Westminster John Knox) by Peter K. Stevenson and Stephen I. Wright is a rich theological exploration of 12 key biblical passages on the subject, offering insights for preaching and teaching. There is an exegetical discussion of each passage, followed by a sample sermon on the passage, followed by a brief commentary on the sermon. This book will provide a wealth of insights for preachers as they approach this important doctrine. This volume by two outstanding British teachers and preachers is a follow-up to their earlier book Preaching the Atonement. We can hope there will be a continuing series. --Michael Duduit, Preaching, Vol. 25, #6, May/June 2010.
