Alzheimer's Disease: A Medical Companion

by Alistair Burns (Author), Alistair Burns (Author), William Pettit (Author), Robert Howard (Author)

Synopsis

There is currently no published text for GPs on the management of Alxheimer's Disease, one of the major neurodegenerative diseases. This book will provide both up-to-date information on the epidemiology and aetiology of the disease, and a full clinical picture with details on diagnosis and management options, including pharmacological and non-drug (psychological) therapies. Management of the disease from the primary care angle will be discussed, reflecting the current changes within the NHS structure. The effect on the family supporting the patient, who is frequently disorientated and out of control of life, is stressful and there will be a chapter suggesting some strategies for the GP to use in alleviating this. This book takes a broad look at the management of this disease in the primary care setting, in which the majority of patients are treated, in order to encourage a thorough understanding and effective clinical approach.
