by Carol Sellars (Author)
Risk assessment has become a major concern in recent years. However, the vast majority of published work refers to the assessment of risks in people with serious mental health problems, and particularly those who are prone to offending. This book arose out of the author's awareness that there was little material relating to the assessment of risks for people with learning disabilities, even though many care workers and health and social services staff are required to carry out such assessments for their clients. The book provides a readily understood explanation of the concept of risk, and an accessible discussion of the key areas where risks need to be assessed in the lives of people with learning disabilities. It describes an approach to assessing risks that is systematic but relatively simple, and emphasizes the need to see risk assessment as an ongoing process in which all interested parties can consider the potential risks in any situation.
