Psychoanalytic Theory: An Introduction

Psychoanalytic Theory: An Introduction

by Anthony Elliot (Author)

Synopsis

Psychoanalysis has had an immense impact upon contemporary theoretical debates, but its meanings and different traditions can be hard to grasp. This introduction to psychoanalysis ranges widely across the major traditions of psychoanalysis and reviews the work of key psychoanalytic thinkers such as Freud, Klein, Winnicott, Kohut and Lacan. It is designed to provide a useful starting-point for any exploration of the contribution of psychoanalysis to contemporary theory.

Media Reviews
Moving with ease from Freud, through object relations theory, Lacan, and psychoanalytic feminism, to postmodern theory and beyond, Anthony Elliott's explications of even the most thorny theoretical positions are lucid and compelling. Madelon Sprengnether, University of Minnesota 'I enthusiastically recommend this important book. It will stimulate much needed reaction and interaction among students of psychoanalysis, psychology, social theory, cultural studies and politics.' Contemporary Psychology
