by David Flint (Author)
This is one of four themes that chidren are required to study at Key Stage two of the National Curriculum and at Scottish levels C-E. The photocopiable activities in this book examine both the human and physical geography of rivers. Some of the activities involve locality work, with sheets designed for field work in the child's locality as well as for case studies of rivers in Europe, such as the Rhine, and elsewhere in the world, such as the Nile. Other sheets link river studies to map work. Issues of water safety are highlighted and the accompanying teachers' notes provide background information, explain the purpose of each activity, suggest follow-up ideas and highlight links with the Scottish 5-14 guidelines and the Northern Ireland science curriculum.
