The leading text for Advanced Level Design and TechnologyThis third edition of Advanced Design & Technology has been revised to match the new AS/A Level specifications from Edexcel, AQA (NEAB) and OCR.
This leading text is also suitable both for the Scottish Higher and Higher Still qualifications in DET, and for the International Baccalaureate (Design and Technology option from Group 4: Experimental Sciences) Fully updated, Advanced Design & Technology not only provides a practical guide to modern designing, but also covers both the scientific principles and the technical information required.
The structure of the course has been re-organised into focus areas to cover the new specifications and to reflect Design and Technology at GCSE. The book is split into four main sections:
- Materials
- Energy
- Structures
- Systems and Control
Features
- New Case Studies put theory into real-life contexts which are relevant to student's experiences. They include material on both industrial and commercial design.

This book covers A and AS level syllabuses for design and technology. It should also prove useful to first year college, polytechnic and university students following degree courses in engineering and industrial design. It aims to provide a practical guide to designing and presents the scientific principles and technical information essential at this level. It covers all the elements of design, technology and engineering in one book and is suitable for students with no previous experience of the subject as well as those who have studied CDT for GCSE (assumes a knowledge of mathematics and science at GCSE level). Practical aspects of designing with worked examples such as those encountered in examinations, show how the concepts are applied to numerical problems and this, together with the 350 assignments, most of the examination questions, and design briefs set by the examining boards, give students an opportunity to gain the experience and expertise necessary for examination requirements. It is suitable for Oxford, London, Cambridge, AEB, and JMB examinations.
