South East Asian Development: Geographical Perspectives

South East Asian Development: Geographical Perspectives

by D . J . Dwyer (Editor)

Synopsis

This work considers the major aspects of development problems and policies in contemporary South East Asia, and demonstrates the significant contribution geographers have made to the study of the area in recent decades. It is an outcome of the ongoing programme of research work and discussion of the Developing Areas Research Group (DARG), of the Institute of British Geographers. It analyses and places in perspective the significant changes the area has undergone in recent years through rapid economic growth and its differential impact on various countries. It outlines the political and economic confrontation between capitalism and communism that has occurred in the region and looks to the future in assessing its prospects as a major component of the Pacific rim . It is a companion volume to the Latin American Development , edited by David Preston (Longman, 1987).
