Europe: An Intimate Journey

by JanMorris (Author)

Synopsis

Europe has been widely acclaimed as among the finest achievements of 'one of our greatest living writers' (The Times). A personal appreciation, fuelled by five decades of journeying, this is Jan Morris at her best - at once magisterial and particular, whimsical and profound. It is a matchless portrait of a continent.

'This is Jan Morris's finest book.' Michael Leapman, Country Life 'At the height of her incomparable form... Imagine listening to a great raconteur on a good evening. Author Bio
Jan Morris was born in 1926 of a Welsh father and an English mother, and when she is not travelling she lives with her partner Elizabeth Morris in the top left-hand corner of Wales, between the mountains and the sea. Her books include Coronation Everest, Venice, The Pax Britannica Trilogy (Heaven's Command, Pax Britannica, and Farewell the Trumpets), and Conundrum. She is also the author of six books about cities and countries, two autobiographical books, several volumes of collected travel essays and, most recently, the unclassifiable Trieste and the Meaning of Nowhere. Hav, a novel, was published in a new and enlarged edition by Faber in 2006.
