This is a child's introduction to chess. Divided into 16 chapters, each teaching a specific skill, it is written in such a way as to enable a beginner to learn chess at home with his or her parents, or to provide a guide for teaching groups of children in a club or at school. It is aimed particularly at seven or eight-year-olds, although older beginners should find it useful. There are activities sections in all chapters and quizzes to test understanding of skills as they are learned. From Chapter 6 onwards there are games to play through and finally, as chess is first and foremost a game which should be played for enjoyment, there is a section in each chapter called "Fact File", which includes items of general interest, chess history and trivia.
