The contributions in this volume are a mixture of the known and much-loved prayers of women such as Julian of Norwich and Mother Teresa, and the unknown. Some were written several centuries ago, whilst others are quite recent expressions of the newly-found freedom many women feel as they strive to formulate their own spirituality. They span not only centuries but continents and whilst the language in which they are written may reflect the age and sentiments in which they live, the themes are remarkably similar: love and lodging, faith and doubt, the quest for personal identity and meaningful work; the paradox of suffering, the outrage at global injustice and the ongoing search for God in the midst of life's enigmas.
