Philip's World Traveller's Atlas has been designed with the would-be world traveller in mind, whether on business or pleasure. Together with 128 pages of detailed world mapping it contains two travel planning sections: World Explorer and World Cities . With maps, photographs and text, the 32-page World Explorer guides the reader to a selection of 400 destinations around the globe, providing the reader with ideas for potential short breaks or holidays. The destinations are arranged by theme or activity, ranging from natural wonders like volcanoes and canyons to activities such as snowboarding and whale watching. Other themes include railway and river journeys and ocean cruises, historic sites, festivals and theme parks. World Cities offers detailed and indexed maps of 67 cities around the globe, including all the major capitals, plus an illustrated 100-entry City Gazetteer giving concise touring information and recommendations for day-trips. The mapping sections of the atlas are all given in full relief with digital cartography. They combine hill shading with layer-coloured contours to give a visual impression of the landscape, and chart geological features, towns and transport routes. This is all supported by an alpha-numeric index of 55,000 names which includes geographical sites, as well as provinces, towns and cities.
