There is currently a dearth of good women's writing for use in GCSE English lessons. This anthology will help to redress the imbalance. It provides a diverse selection of recent short stories by women who stand at the forefront of good literature. The stories reflect a broad cross-section of society, as they are written by women from different cultural backgrounds, and embrace a wide range of styles of writing and points of view. Well-known writers like Alice Walker and Rosamund Pilcher are represented, but also writers who may be less familiar to students of this age, such as Ila Mehta and Liliana Heker. The Stolen Party promotes the enjoyment of a variety of literature, encourages interesting critical responses and inspires original creative writing.
