by SchoolMathematicsProject (Author)
This book has been written for students of A level Further Mathematics, and it is also a useful text for some college and university courses. It aims to be accessible to students who have only limited access to a teacher. The book is about the three activities involved in practical applications of mathematics: making a mathematical model of a situation; the solution of simple versions of models by exact formulas; and the numerical solution of more difficult models to compare with reality. This last area of mathematics has become more accessible now that calculators and computers are available and use of this technology is assumed in the text. In addition to ample practice exercises, with answers, there are three Project and Investigations sections which suggest more substantial pieces of mathematical work.
