  The Ciba Foundation is an international scientific and educational charity which was established in order to promote international co-operation in biological, medical and chemical research. It organizes about eight multidisciplinary symposia each year on topics ready for discussion by a small body of research workers. This volume embodies the proceedings of a conference on the evaluation of scientific research, held at the Ciba Foundation's offices in London, on 6th-8th June 1988.
