Author Bio
RICHARD PAILTHORPE has lived in Chichester most of his life and has worked for many years at the Weald and Downland Open Air Museum, Singleton. He is a former chairman of the Chichester Visitors' Group and has a detailed knowledge of the area's history. Co-author of Chichester - A Contemporary View (John Wiley & Sons, 1994), he is very well connected with the fabric of people and places that, together, enrich contemporary Chichester life. IAIN MCGOWAN who took the majority of the photographs, lives in the Chichester area, most of his life spent in either East or West Sussex. As a Fellow of the Royal Photographic Society and a professional photographer, his work is known to many. Of particular note are his photographs of Northern Ireland and Scotland, just two of the areas where he now runs his landscape photography workshops. He is the author of Hebridean Images (Creative Monochrome Ltd 1993) and of course, co-author and chief photographer of Chichester - A Contemporary View (John Wiley & Sons, 1994). His photographs have appeared in many other local books and publications. He is at present preparing a fourth illustrated book - to be published in 2000. It will cover North Mundham, the parish in which he lives.
